✔ Restaurant:
Eulmildae
Eulmildae is known as one of the top 3 places for Pyongyang naengmyeon in Seoul. Nowadays, Koreans are more familiar with regular naengmyeon, which is a bit sour, so opinions on Pyongyang naengmyeon are divided. Some people seek out Pyongyang naengmyeon exclusively, while other avoid it completely.
Eulmildae is located in six minute walk from Exit 2 or Daeheung Stating, Line 6, or a ten minute walk from Exit 2 of Gongdeok Station, where Line 2, Line 5, and Gyeongui Jungang Line meet. The restaurant is split into two sections. When you line up at a main entrance, they will guide you to a seat. There is usually a wait since the restaurant is popular.
✔ Menu:
The menu includes mul-naengmyeon, hoe-naengmyeon, bibim naengmyeon, boiled pork, mung bean pancakes, and fermented skate. If you want to try Pyongyang naengmyeon, get mul-naengmyeon. The mung bean pancakes on the menu are also a traditional dish from Pyongyang. There are a made from grounded mung bean mixed with vegetables and meat, then fried in the oil. Eulmildae is also famous for its mung bean pancakes, so I order both mung bean pancakes and mul-naengmyeon, which are quite large for one person.
✔ Food:
By looking at the color of the noodles, they are clearly made from buckwheat. There's vinegar and mustard on the side, but since I've only tried Pyongyang naengmyeon once, I wanted to try it plain at first. Then I realized I needed vinegar and mustard, but even with them, it remained quite mild. I noticed that I'm very used to tangy naengmyeon, so personally it felt flavorless to me. But others around me enjoyed it greatly.
There were thicker and more filled than expected. However, the taste was still mild for me, even with the sauce.
Everything overall was quite mild here. But I think I understand why people like it. Way back in my first time having Pyongyang naengmyeon, I couldn't even take a bite. But now I did finish the whole bowl. I think I may crave for it if I try one more time. Though I'm not sure when that will be.
