[Seoul] Buchon Yukhoe

Updated: Nov 6

✔ Restaurant:

Buchon Yukhoe

Yukhoe is a popular dish in Korea. It consists of raw beef mixed with simple seasonings, typically served with Korean pear and raw egg yolk. If you’ve researched food in Korea, you probably come across yukhoe. Today, I want to introduce you to Buchon Yukhoe.

Buchon Yukhoe is located in Gwangjang Market with both a main store and an annex in the same area. The restaurant has been around since 1965 and has even been selected for the Michelin Guide.

Buchon Yukhoe is easily accessible from Jongno 5-ga Station. Line 1, just outside Exit 8. If you're not taking Line 1, you can also get there with a six minute walk from Exit 4 of Euljiro-4ga Station where Line 2 and Line 5 intersect.

✔ Menu:

The menu offers a variety of yukhoe dishes. Popular choices here are yukhoe with small octopus (yukhoe nakji tangtangi), and yukhoe bibimbap.

We were a group of three and ordering one each of yukhoe nakji tangtangi, yukhoe bibimbap and yukhoe mulhoe. Note that each person is required to order at least one dish.

✔ Food & How to eat:

Yukhoe nakji tangtangi is served with pieces of raw octopus and raw egg yolk on top of yukhoe. Mix everything well before eating. Dip the small pieces of octopus in the sesame oil and be sure to chew the octopus throughoutly.

For yukhoe bibimbap, add gochujang (red chili paste). Mix it all together.

The yukhoe mulhoe is very refreshing. Mix everything together first, then scoop some including the cold broth on your personal plate. It tastes fresh, a bit sour and spicy.

The freshness of the yukhoe makes everything taste delicious. Yukhoe in this store tastes slightly different from other yukhoe places.
