Hello everyone.
Are you planning to visit Korea in the spring?
Are you wondering what to do?
Or what to wear in spring season in Korea?
If so, watch this video and you can find out everything about spring in Korea. In Korea, March to May is spring. The weather is really nice, so it's the season where people enjoy various activities outdoors. Let's go over it in detail.
Weather
First, let's look at the weather. Just to give you an idea, average temperature is around 10 degrees in March, 15 degrees in April, and 20 degrees in May. Once again this is just an average to give you an idea what the temperature might be in Seoul.
About clothing
It is still cold in early March, so it’s good to wear a sweater and a thick jacket. From mid-March to the end of April, you can wear a pull over or long sleeves with a lighter jacket. In May, you can wear long sleeves or tshirts with a shirt. But I recommend carrying around a thin windbreaker just in case. I don’t think pants matter to much, but it may be a bit early to wear shorts.
Btw, Busan or Jeju Island or other cities are warmer than Seoul.
Things to do
Let's find out what you can do in Seoul during spring season. Since the weather is so good in spring, it’s such a nice season to go outside and enjoy nature.
Cherry Blossoms
First thing that comes to mind in the spring season is Cherry blossoms. I think this is one of the reasons why people are waiting for spring to come. People all over Korea plan to visit Cherry blossoms locations in the spring because cherry blossom season only lasts for 2-3 weeks. The season changes every year depending on the weather. You can see cherry blossoms anywhere in Seoul during that time, but there are good viewing spots where you can fully enjoy the view of cherry blossoms. I will tell you 6 places where you can visit in Seoul.
Yeouido - In Yeouido, there is this popular place for cherry blossoms viewing spot called Yunjung-ro Cherry Blossom road which makes it a great time to visit Yeouido. Get off at the National Assembly Station and follow this path to go the road. While visiting Yeouido, you can visit Yeouido Han River Park and ride bicycle there or shop at IFC mall or The Hyundai Seoul.
Seokchon Lake - This is a good place to see cherry blossoms surrounding Seokchon Lake. You can also see Lottle World and Lotte Tower. Get off at Jamsil Station or Seokchon Station and walk around the lake to see cherry blossoms.
Yangjaecheon - This place is also popular as a cherry blossom viewing spot. Cheon is stream in English. You will see a stream running down next to cherry blossom road. Get off at Yangjae Citizen's Forest Station and walk along the stream to see cherry blossoms. There aren’t anything else to do around here but it still worth the visit to walk on the trail.
Namsan - Cherry blossoms also bloom in Namsan. If you get off at Hoehyeon Station and walk toward Namsan, you will find Namsan Trail. You can see cherry blossoms along the way with N Seoul Tower. Namsan is very close to Myeongdong so if you are staying at Myeongdong, then try visiting Namsan.
Olympic Park - As this is a park, cherry blossoms are spread widely. Get off at Olympic Park Station or Mongchontoseong Station to enter the Olympic Park. It is also good to take pictures from the octagonal pavilion here. There is an Alone Tree in the park so don’t forget to visit the tree.
Seoul Forest - This is a great place to see cherry blossoms while having a picnic. If you get off at Seoul Forest Station and follow this road to the south of Seoul Forest, you can see cherry blossoms. Also there is Seoungsoodong, where all the pop-up stores and trendy cafes are, near the Seoul Forest. So maybe grab a meal or dessert afterwards.
Other Flower spots
There are also other flower viewing spot.
Eungbongsan - It’s a low mountain where there are stairs to the top. Along the path you can see forsythia. On the top, there is an octagonal pavilion and you can also enjoy the view at the viewpoint. The hike isn’t bad but the trail is all stairs, so be careful. Get off at Eungbongsan Station and follow the signs to find the stairs. You can see forsythia while climbing the stairs. It is also a popular spot for night views.

Picnic at Han River Park
In spring, one of the top things people in Korea loves to do is having a picnic at Han River Park. Eating chicken and ramen while having a picnic in front of the Han River is the best thing to enjoy in spring when the weather is nice. You can rent a mat and small table, buy food, and enjoy a picnic at Yeouido Han River Park. Get off at Yeoui Naru Station. You can rent a table here, and there are many food vendors. You will need some kind of ID card to rent those mat and table so don’t forget to take one. Or if you are worried about ID card, you can just purchase small mat. You wouldn’t need the table.
Activity
I recommend taking a short walk or hiking. It's good to walk along the Han River or take a walk while looking at cherry blossoms, and it's good to go to Inwangsan or Namsan, which are easy to walk up. It is also good to walk along the fortress wall in Naksan Park or walk through the forest in the city on the Gyeongui Line Forest Road. You can also rent and ride a bicycle at the Han River. You can also rent a bicycle using the Ttareungyi app.
DMZ
If you some extra time, I also recommend going on a DMZ tour in spring. There is a large park with many flowers and colorful vanes. Many families are there to have picnic in the weekends.
Food
There are seasonal foods for each season every year in Korea. The seasonal food of spring are namul, which are mountain herbs. Try foods containing mountain herbs. Conch and webfoot octopus are also famous. In addition, there are many cherry blossom season drinks, snacks, desserts that only comes out in the spring season. So don’t miss them.
Other cities
If you want to visit other cities in the spring, I recommend Jeju Island, Gyeongju, and Jinhae. I personnally love going to Jeju Island in spring season because of the weather and flowers. You might want to plan to stay for minimum 3 days in Jeju. Gyeongju has a lot of historical places that requires a lot of walking, so I think spring is the best time to visit so that you don’t have to sweat much. Also Cherry blossoms with Hanok view is amazing in Gyeongju. Spending two days in Geyongju would be good. Jinhae has the biggest Cherry blossoms festival. Many people visit there. You can do a day tirp to this festival by booking an one day tour at tour websites.
Q&A
Q. Where can I go to see this beautiful flower bloom?
I received so many questions about this picture. It’s really beautiful place here. It’s Azalea Garden in Bucheon located near Seoul. It took me around an hour to get there with public transporation. There were a lot of people last year. I guess it’s because last spring was like the first spring after Covid19 and people have been wanting to visit somewhere to see flowers. And this place just got viral on Instagram, so many people visited there last year. If you have the chance, visit here. I might to a video on this very soon. By the way, azaleas are expected to be fully bloom at the end of March to beginning of April.
Q. Do you mind to capture another picture of March?
I don’t have any picture of flowers from last March. It was cold until March last year so I didn’t get to see flowers in March. However, in year weather is already warm so flowers are expected to be seen in March. Forsythia is the first flower that blooms, and 응봉산 is well known for forsythia. Maybe try there in March.
Q. Best cherry blossom spots and activity?
Best spots for cherry blossoms. I personally like Yungjung-ro Cherry blossom road in Yeouido and walk path next to Yangjaecheon Stream.
Best activity in spring is picnic at han river park. I cannot think anything better than this because I love it so much.
Q. Will be in Seoul between 6-13 April. Then will head to Jeju. Will we see cherry blossoms?
You might. I am not so sure. Noramally, cherry blossoms are fully bloom in first week of April, and lasts couple of weeks; but this year, cherry blossoms are expected to fully bloom at the end of March. So you might be able to see them, but in Jeju, I think it will be gone by then.
Q. Which places should be visited in spring?
I have listed places in the spring video, so you can check it there; But to recommend places from the ones I visited last year, Azalea Garden and Hongjaecheon.
Q. How cold does it get? Cloth recommendations?
Starting from March to May, the weather slightly gets warmer. It’s in between 10-22 degrees I think. Carry a light jackets that you can wear in the morning and at night because it’s chilly. You can check my spring video for more detailed cloth recommendations.
Q.Till when is the spring?
In Korea, we have these days that let us know when the season changes no matter what the temperature is. These dates are in all lunar days so it changes every year in our general calendar. The start of summer is May 5th this year. But we just think that march to May is spring and from June is summer.
Q. Has the cherry blossom forecast out yet for this year 2024?
Yes! It’s out. Here is the chart. I am so waiting for these days. I am planning to go visit places that I have not visited for cherry blossoms.
Q. Where area in Seoul the spring season starts first?
Well, probaly in southern side? But honestly, Seoul isn’t that big to notice the difference in temperature by areas. So you can think that all areas are the same. But Jeju is the first area where the spring first starts in Korea.
Q. Is it good to come in june? I am planning for 5 days from June 1
Yes. It is. It’s not the best best time but it’s still great time to visit Korea before Korea gets to hot and humid in summer.
Q. Location of Apricots blossom each in Seoul, Busan, and Jeju.
Apricots usually blossom in April in Korea. So I don’t think you can see them in Febuary. I heard Deoksugung palace and Seoul Forest are popluar places to see Apricot trees in Seoul and Oncheon Stream in Busan. But I heard Jeju doesn’t have that many Apricot trees. So there isn’t any place that is famouse for Apricot trees.
Q. Does it rain during this time?
It does rain but not as much as how it rains in summer. For what to wear, you can check my last spring video.
Q. Cherry blossom location in Seoul, Busan, and Jeju?
For cherry blossom locations in Seoul, please check my spring video. For Busan, there are walk path next to Suyoung River. It’s very great place to see cherry blossoms. In Jeju, there are couple of spots. Jeonnong-ro Cherry Blossom Road. This is where the cherry blossom festival is held.
It's already spring. Spring in Korea has really nice weather, which makes me want to out a lot. As I have said before, there are a lot of people everywhere in spring. So try to avoid going popluar places in the weekends and go during the weekdays to enjoy it a little more comfortably.
This is it for today. I hope this was helpful and hope you can experience new stuff while traveling in spring season.
