When you think of Korea, you can't leave out jjajangmyeon. It's localized Korean Chinese dish that has been loved for over a century. Although there are now various delivery food options available. In the past, jjajangmyeon was the go to delivery food. As a result, a culture developed where people would order jjajangmyeon on days when they couldn't cook at home. This tradition continues today, with many still ordering jjajangmyeon in moving days, workdays or etc. You may have seen it many times in K-Dramas.
So I decided to order jjajangmyeon myself to show you guys.
✔ Menu:
I order one jjajangmyeon and small tangsuyuk. While one serving of jjajangmyeon is enough for one person, I also ordered tangsuyuk because they won't do delivery if you just order one jjajangmyeon.
✔ Food:
✔ How to eat:
To eat jjajangmyeon, mixed noodles and sauce. It has a slightly greasy yet sweet taste. Tangsuyuk is a dish of fried pork served with a sweet sauce.
There's an ongoing debate in Korea about whether to dip tangsuyuk in the sauce or pour the sauce over tangsuyuk. It's such a contentious issue that fights break out almost every time people eat it. Some say sauce poured over tangsuyuk as how it is made for that, while others argue that pouring the sauce makes the crispy pork soggy and less tasty.
So choose whatever you prefer. I love to pour it, but I knew I couldn't finish the whole dish myself, so I decided to dip the sauce.
✔ Overall:
I am introducing jjajangmyeon because when you come to Korea trying delivery food is a must. However, it might be difficult for those without Korean phones to use delivery services.
Nonetheless, if you're a keen on experiencing it, you could try asking the hotel front desk for assistance if you're staying at a hotel. Alternatively, you can visit Chinese restaurant by searching for one nearby. You have to go to a Korean style Chinese restaurant to try jjajangmyeon not Chinese Chinese restaurant.
Jjajangmyeon is a dish where the chef's touch is crucial. So there aren't too many franchisees. But well-known jjajangmyeon franchises are Hong Kong Banjeom and Hong Jjajang. Try those if you can’t find other local places.
Next time I'll try to review a jjajangmyeon restaurant instead of ordering delivery.
